Getting Closer

Alex
Danny enduring his PCG5 test

The boys finished their test over the weekend. It will be analyzed by the neonatalogist sometime this week. The findings will determine if they go home on caffeine or prevacid among other things.

The boys have been eating more in the last two days. Danny ate 35ish mL's in the morning, 60 in the afternoon and 45 at night. Alex ate 60 Ml's in the morning, 0 at lunch and 63 in the evening. They will get a bottle at 1:30AM. "Why?", you say, is this so important? Well, in order to progress to the next step in hospital protocal, they need to be eating 75 % of 4 feedings. If they do these feedings well for two days, they move to 24 hrs of request and then 24 hrs of demand and then HOME!!!

Thomas Edison is alive??

Trey Nelson reenacted the life of Thomas Edison at the fifth grade Wax Museum.

Come on boys!

The boys weigh 7 lbs 2 oz. They are eating 65 mL's of milk each feeding. They average 25 mL's a the breast and the rest is fed through their tube. They are both off oxygen for good. They have been taken off both caffeine and Prevacid (reflux medication) and are going to get a 12 hour test hooked up to a machine to see how their heart and lungs perform. They are keeping their oxygen sat's up really well. Hopefully, they pass their test and are able to come home without caffeine.

Lots of visitors

Sarah Dodson, Kim Andrews, Mike and Lauren Andrews and Vicki Nelson all came to visit the boys this week. The visits were a great morale boost.

Maybe this week. . .

Danny
Alex
I love you brother
Pops loves his boys
I guess I am going to three feedings a day this week and perhaps a bottle also toward the end of the week. Alex weighs 7 lbs and Danny weighs 6 lbs 11 oz. They are nice and fat. They are doing better at their feedings although it is still ups and downs there. Sometimes Alex eats 40 mL's other times its 16 mL's and Danny does the same. Danny is officially off his oxygen except at feedings and Alex is at 21% (room air) with just a puff blown in his nose. The poor kiddos have lots of gas from the supplement they get for their bone development.

Maybe this week?

Grandma visits the babies

Grandma Andrews enjoyed visiting the babies and getting a few snuggles. Danny is off oxygen except when he eats- he gets a "blow by" at dinner time. Alex was off his oxygen for a day but his oxygen sat levels dropped too often and he was breathing too hard.
They are improving on the amount of food they eat. Alex ate 3/4's of his meal twice in a row when I breastfed him. This means I will go three times a day to feed them. Danny hasn't eaten as much lately (12-16 mL's) possibly because of tummy aches from gas. They are both over 6 1/2 lbs. I hope they will be able to come home in the next week.

Romy's last few days of toil

Wide load
She looks tired!

Romy is getting huge!! The pictures don't do justice. There are some storms rolling in for this week. I think she'll foal out in one of those. I'll be checking on her regularly and hopefully we won't miss the foaling.

Last night we went to see the boys. Uncle John and Uncle Seth came to see their little nephews. Then it was time for them to eat. They ate pretty well. Tessa drew some pictures for the boys and they were posted on the crib. Alexander weighs 6 lbs 5 oz and Daniel weighs 6 lbs 1/2 oz. They are getting some nice fat rolls under their chins.

Bath time

Alex and Danny snoozing

Tonight, mom and I went to see the kiddos. Both boys did an excellent job of nursing after having a couple other sessions of sleepiness. I attempted tandem feeding since they were both awake and I didn't want to have Danny crying as he waited. It was very successful. Danny drank 24 mL's and Alex drank 14 mL's.
Afterwards, they got a bath. The method used was amazing. They slept practically through their entire bath.
Alexander now weighs 2680 grams and Daniel weighs 2583 grams.

Getting chubbier

Danny Boy

Alexander

The boys are doing well. They both weigh 5 lbs 6 oz as of April 7th. They are starting to get the hang of breastfeeding. Both of their oxygen saturation levels are improving. I love going to see them and cuddling with them. It will be a relief though when they can come home. This is tentatively in 2-3 weeks.

Sads news

Gemini Nelson died on Friday, April 6, 2007. He was run over by a dump truck. We buried him in our backyard beside a Russian Olive tree. He loved to go running through the pasture playing with his red ball. We will miss him and we know he is having fun playing in heaven.

Twins as of 4-5-07

Well, it has been a long 51/2 weeks but the boys are doing well. They are 5 lbs each and eating 45 mL's of milk every three hours. They sleep most of the time, even when tempted by a bit o' breastfeeding. They are soo yummy. I could stay with them all day- but the other half of the family needs their mommy too.

Romy's time draws near

We are sooo excited for the impeding birth of a foal. Romy is getting quite round. We are just a couple weeks away from another baby running around the ranch.

The twins accellerated arrival

After months of excitement, trepidation and sleepless nights. . .the twins came into the world only 11 weeks early. Alexander James was pulled out first (via C-section) at 01:41 and Paul Daniel was second at 01:44. They weighed 2 lbs 13 oz and 2 lbs 12 oz respectively. Needless to say, they need some intense loving and care. Each were ventilated and put on IV's.

Two Pepperoni's !!

Welcome to a glimpse into our crazinesses. We just added two more kiddos to our family on Feb 26, 2007. This is our first image of the surprises: twins! Tessa thought this was a picture of pepperoni's.
